Swedish Style: Mora Clocks

10 Feb

I adore Mora clocks, there’s something about the lines of these tall clocks that just does it for me.  The name comes from the town of Mora in the Dalarna province of Sweden, where production of these clocks began in the late 18th century.  The clocks come in a wide range of beautiful colors, sizes and levels of decoration – some even include the piece’s date of completion painted into the decoration.  They’re basically awesome.

Here’s one in the living room in the house from “Something’s Gotta Give” :

This past fall at the Brimfield Antique Show I had the pleasure of meeting Jeffree Turney, the owner of Lone Ranger Antiques and an incredible collector and source for 18th & 19th century Swedish antiques.  A little out of my budget for my first “real” apartment, but it doesn’t mean I didn’t compulsively stop by his booth five times in a day….
